Do Outer Layers Hide Our Fear or Display Our Character?

Tessa Saks Weekly Prompt
Who am I?
What is the message I send to the world?
Am I who I think I am?

If we had no clothes how would we express ourselves? And how important would it be to display our inner message to others? Would body marking be the rage? Would we be happier?

I am not my clothes. Never have been. But they do offer clues as to who I am trying to be or who I want to be. And thankfully, it has changed over the years.

What we wear is important in our society as every job or status-role has predefined ideals and standards of what is acceptable and what isn’t. You can think you are a rebel but somehow you are still conforming to a pre-set bunch of rules.

From Hudderites in black and white polka-dots to bikers in leather vests to saffron colored zen robes, there are codes for who we are–and maybe more important– what group we belong to. And in a way they do help hide who we are afraid we aren’t. A uniform can add confidence and bury fear. But for how long?

I have purposely tried to avoid following fashion as dictated by the magazines and instead sought to find my own style. One that represents how I feel about who I am and what I love. But I am still influenced. I love fabric and color and texture. I appreciate beautiful workmanship.

I do want people to understand more about me by what I wear. Years ago, I tried to go super-conservative for work and found myself living a lie. I wanted to belong and to fit in, but I was not who I pretended to be. I needed to let my inner diva out. And when I finally admitted this to myself, I also changed jobs.

I need freedom to be me.
And the outer layers of my clothing do represent a slice of the inner me.
I am grateful to live in a world where we can use clothing as a message to others about a tiny part of us.

And I fear a future world like in sci-fi which has us wearing jumpsuits or matching uniforms. A massive army of clones, afraid to be different. Afraid to stand out. Afraid to take chances and make mistakes. Because I would rather look back at my crazy 80’s shoulder pads knowing that I experimented and took some chances, than have a photo album full of safe and boring outfits to match a safe and boring life.

So yes to self-expression. It’s what living is all about.

Love Poem To Anyone Without Love This Valentine’s

m0SPZ5Z7g9SObyFhpgvCeMA

I love but you don’t know it.
I love you . . .
Without reason or cause.
And in spite of your faults.

I love you despite all the ways
you keep others at a distance.
Held back by the wall
around your heart.
Your fortress.
The shield that protects
the all of you.
The secret you.
Hidden. Locked.

I love because you
are the only you.
For your smile. Your laughter.
Your pain. Your sorrow.
The all of you.

For all the things that make you
original—I love you.

And if I love you
know that somewhere out there
someone else also loves you.

And one day
when you least expect it
you will
feel love again, too.

Love

tessa saks love poem

Sonnet 116
By William Shakespeare

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool;, those rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Love Poem: Constant Longing

Love Poem Dark

Constant Longing
by Tessa Saks

And with this—the summer
of my discontent.
How could you know
how to see
the trouble within,
a stillness be?

Shorn from soul
a troubled mind
a weary heart
and forgotten blind love
of thee.

Will you remember
the time stood still?
A thunderous heart
for a devil’s pull.

What course is mine
to fallow and want,
a lesson in kindness?
A choice in scant
and idle pleasure.

You tore my heart
away
from bits of bigger pieces.
The whole of my life.

And forgiveness can
nevermore
be still
within unchaste longing
forgotten rhythm
and delight,
at lover’s lost
a torrid night.

My still wounded pride
surfaces to reach you
Unyielding
and evermore
the slave.

Repent.
And do your bidding
but
close the door,
shut me away
before my heart
does long to stray.

I am not
myself
when you are near.
I seek redemption
and quiet
to still
my restless heart
and unchallenged soul.

A witness to my misery and
longing
unaware of captivity
and a tumbled brew.

I long for a touch
to hasten away
the fire and rocks
beneath a troubled
heart and
unvanquished soul.

You destroy me to rebuild,
what was once whole
but broken
and flawed.

Can you see where
and why
I no longer
need your touch as
Fear has stolen the dream
Of kisses.

Harden my resolve to
cast you aside
Destroy this hunger
to keep my heart alive.

You are untrue, you reckless heart
Chasten in desire
But empty in
virtue long and true.

What would I gain,
giving over to you
the sum of all the better
years
And yet
I wish
I seek
to try again.

Against my better judgment
and caustic longing.
I wait.
I seek to forget
To dissolve.

You wrenched soul
a destroyer of heart
and life
for foolish gain.

Romantic heart, stands
waiting to your
attention.
Forgotten.

Eternity expands to open
her door
And I am swallowed
Whole.
Falling deeper
into the darker stare.

A loss of life,
of love and hearts true.
A constant longing
For none
but you.

Be Yourself by Tessa Saks

To become better at something – don’t read about it.
Feel it.
Then try it. Feel all the knowledge and power that is available to you.

It will come without study. The ones who spend a life time studying are afraid.
They are afraid to be themselves.
They rely on others’ ideas, others examples, others’ thoughts.

You can have whatever you need by tapping into your heart, your soul.
Open yourself to trials.
Open yourself to experiment.
Let it flow out from inside if you.

Stop and feel. Stop and feel what you want to achieve.
You do not have to try to think of everything.
It’s all there, stored for your own use.

Everyone has this power. Everyone can tap into it.
What do you want to know, to do? What could you become without study?
Let it flow.

Stop trying to force things in to your life.
Appreciate, then move on.

Do not spend all your time in the past.
Take the knowledge that already is and build on it.
Make it yours.
It’s available anytime. Anywhere.
Just ask.

Imagine spending your entire life reading about writing.
Would you be a great writer?
Would you be a better writer if you wrote from your heart?
It is writing verses editing. Flowing versus forcing.
Being real versus being right.

You cannot create anything new trying to do what is already done.
Be brave, be bold, be free.

Talent is tapping into your unlimited knowledge base and using it for you.
The world is full of copycats.
Every day thousands, millions go to work and repeat tasks over and over.

Brilliance comes from research, from thinking beyond, thinking bold, thinking outside the routine.
Even more important, brilliance comes from feeling knowledge.
Feel your source of skill.
Feel your source of ability.
Use all that has been done before, but in a new way.

If you aren’t adding new, you don’t need to repeat over and over.
It becomes more of the same.
There is already enough of that.
Add something new.
Let go of the same. Break rules.
Force changes.

Why do laws need to be based on the past? Why not just create an entire batch of new ones?
New stories, new art, new foods.
The world has enough of the same.
When the world starts demanding new, it will move forward even faster.

The past can be a starting point, but not an end.
We don’t need to redo it.
Why are we afraid of change?
Why do we want our lives to repeat over and over again?
What are we so afraid of?
The past reinforces where we have been, that we have lived. But let it go.

Begin new.
Save for change.
Don’t worry about being wrong.
There is no wrong…

There is no wrong.

Love Poem: When We Two Parted

Love Poem

When We Two Parted

By Lord Byron

When we two parted

In silence and tears,

Half broken-hearted

To sever for years,

Pale grew thy cheek and cold,

Colder thy kiss;

Truly that hour foretold

Sorrow to this.

The dew of the morning

Sunk chill on my brow—

It felt like the warning

Of what I feel now.

Thy vows are all broken,

And light is thy fame;

I hear thy name spoken,

And share in its shame.

They name thee before me,

A knell to mine ear;

A shudder comes o’er me—

Why wert thy so dear?

They know not I knew thee,

Who knew thee too well:—

Long, long shall I rue thee,

Too deeply to tell.

In secret we met—

In silence I grieve

That thy heart could forget,

Thy spirit deceive.

If I should meet thee

After long years,

How should I greet thee?—

With silence and tears.

Discover Love

by Tessa Saks

The world is beauty.

You are beauty.

Love is beauty.

See the beauty inside all of life.

Trust it.

Allow it.

Do not think too hard.

Do not try to force it.

Open to it. Allow it.

Let it flow. Release love. Release beauty.

Open yourself to the possibilities of beauty.

It’s everywhere.

All around you.

Every day.

Don’t question.

Expand.

Expand what is good—what is joy—what is love.

Send it out to others.

Share with others.

Your role is to give it to others.

Share it.

Be the light for them.

Be the hope.

Find ways to share it.

Allow it to flow from you to others.

Open.

Open your heart.

Stop the questioning.

Stop the analysis.

Just be.

Then do.

Be the love. Be the light.

Every day.

Inspire others to their potential.

Give the gift of love.

Give the gift of kindness.

Give the gift of self-discovery.

Your gift to them is to help them discover the beauty within themselves.

Help others to release their blocks.

Help others to see what beauty resides within all.

They are loved.

They are beauty.

They are joy.

Start small. Start around you.

Take the time for others.

Give what is inside you.

Be the light.

Discover the joy in others and you will be joyous.

Allow love to flow.

Be open to the possibilities before you.

Try new things.

Allow yourself to be open to new ideas.

Create a new world.

Create love.

Forget your ego.

Write.

Paint.

Teach.

Talk.

Share.

Trust in yourself.

Give others hope.

Be part of the solution.

Let go of the problems.

Use your inner glow to guide others.

Be their light until they discover their own.

Be their love.

Be their compassion.

Be the bridge to get them to themselves.

Life is meant to be joyous.

Life is meant to be fun.

Life will have sorrow.

Life will have pain.

It’s the joy and bliss that erase the sorrow and the pain.

The sorrow and pain is there to remind you that you have a choice, every day.

A choice to embrace life.

A choice to destroy life.

In your sorrow and pain you destroy life. Your life, the life others.

Each person has the power to create bliss, to create joy.

When we’ve lost the way to joy we can stay lost.

We can get deeper and deeper into pain, into sorrow.

There is a way free.

There is always a way free.

Find yourself.

The inner self.

The deepest self.

There is only love.

There is only joy.

There is only bliss when you find your inner you.

Trust in it.

Find a path to it.

Find a reliable path to access it as much as possible.

Be humble and realize that you are only love.

That is all. That is enough.
